Fire

It’s almost December and it’s cold in northern India.  Children often go without warm jackets and huddle around fires of burning plastic just to stay warm. #respiratory-ailments.

I took this photo two years back.  The street kids had just started a fire with plastic while their father was off drinking (obviously trying to stay warm himself). This scene inspired me to buy coats for the kids. The photo on the right I took last year after we raised enough money to buy 180 coats for kids living in and around a large slum area west of New Delhi. We have been very successful getting these very same kids into our tutoring center to prepare them to enter school.
